The Mock: Volume I

Mark Appel

I said that this wasn’t going to come out til spring, but as I began to take a look at time constraints, I began to realize that I had to get this up before the college season started.

You know the drill with not taking this stuff too literal, so I’ll stop bringing it up after    this one.

Do keep in mind that this is a mock-draft, not a board. If you’re looking for a list of the best players, that is available by clicking here.

In the next edition — probably two weeks from now — I’ll have scouting reports done  for the players. I’ll actually be slowly adding scouting reports this week, and when those are done, we’ll post those on the MLB-DI twitter.

This mock is terrible. Nobody takes a project at #2. See u’ve fallen culprit to the hype machine.

  2. Chris Crawford says:

You’re right. Mike Moustakas, Josh Beckett, Jameson Taillon and B.J. Upton were all proven commodities that made immediate impacts in their respective organizations.

  4. Nototriou DAD says:

How the hell is a guy with that potential a project?

  5. Greg says:

Don’t think the Brewers are gonna go after a bullpen arm in the 1st round.

  6. Chris Crawford says:

Relievers — in general — aren’t ideal this early in the draft, but Stroman is not bad value at this point. They could go the starter route as well, be it a Zimmer or Hansen or Kurt Heyer, but this wouldn’t be a reach, not this year anyway.

    • Greg says:

I would prefer it if they drafted someone like Stroman in the 2nd round, or maybe even the supplemental, but I think Zimmer would be the more logical choice, as the Brewers have shown that they prefer big-bodied pitchers, and Zimmer certainly seems to fit that description.

  7. j.b. Kawika says:

do you think Seager makes it past the supplemental round?

    • Chris Crawford says:

Based on talent, he shouldn’t. But if his commitment to South Carolina is strong and the demands outweigh the potential there’s a chance.

  9. A says:

I think it is a fairly solid mock for so early in the process, although I do have two critiques. One being the Twins choice (I think they go with an arm), and the other the Pirates. Why would a team take another RHP who probably projects as a 3/4 starter with an upside of a #2? I don’t think that is a need or the best player available.

    • Chris Crawford says:

Those are fair critiques, A. I just think that the Pirates would go with the best player available, and in this situation, Gausman would be the best player left on the board.

There is not a better SS than Addison Russell

Where do you see Addison Russell in the Draft
