So, the big change in this edition of the board is we have our third number one. Last year, Gerritt Cole stayed at the top of the board for the entire season, although that is a bit misleading because the website didn’t launch until right around this point. The injury to Giolito combined with the strong play of Buxton made this a bit of a no-brainer pick at this point, and yet, it wouldn’t shock me if there’s a new number one in a couple of weeks, either.

The big drops come from Deven Marrero and Joey Gallo. Marrero simply isn’t hitting — and while the positional value keeps him up — the lack of offensive upside takes him out of the top ten for me. I saw Gallo at the NHSI this past week (check out my report on that here) and while his velocity was impressive on the mound, his bat was slow and I didn’t see anything close to a top-ten pick right now. The power is intriguing enough that he’ll get first-round looks, but like Marrero I no longer consider him a top-ten consideration now.
